Quality must be defined by measurable acceptance criteria
A product page supports selection; the approved drawing and purchase specification control production acceptance.
Suggested control points
| Stage | Controls |
|---|---|
| Incoming material | Connector, cable, contact and component identification |
| Assembly | Strip length, crimp/solder process, pin mapping and shield termination |
| In-process | Dimensions, workmanship and overmold appearance |
| Electrical test | Continuity, shorts, insulation resistance and project-defined high-potential test |
| Final release | Label, quantity, packaging and document revision |
Required sampling, traceability and reports should be specified during quotation. Do not claim a certification or test standard unless the applicable approved evidence is available.
Drawing and change control
The controlled drawing should identify connector ends, contact-face orientation, pin mapping, cable, nominal length and tolerance, labels and critical dimensions. Customer approval establishes the baseline. Later changes to connector, conductor, jacket, overmold or test method should be reviewed for fit, function and compliance.
Define tests by purpose
Continuity finds open or incorrect circuits; a shorts check finds unintended connections; insulation resistance and high-potential testing address different isolation risks. Shield continuity confirms the specified screen path but does not by itself prove network performance. Environmental and mating-cycle tests require agreed methods, samples and limits.
